SCHOOLS OPEN – DRIVE CAREFULLY!!
Edgewater Schools open Thursday, September 3, Leonia High School freshman orientation Wednesday, September 2, all students begin Thursday, September 3.
The Edgewater Police remind motorists to be aware of more pedestrians crossing the street during the school year and it is the law to stop for pedestrians who have entered a designated cross walk. All vehicles must stop for school buses that are showing red stop lights. The Edgewater Police also remind pedestrians to cross at a signalized intersection with a designated crosswalk. DO NOT CROSS MID-BLOCK AND ENDANGER YOURSELF AND OTHERS.
ONE WAY TRAFFIC RESUMES ON UNDERCLIFF AVENUE
In an attempt to regulate the flow of traffic and facilitate morning drop off at the George Washington School, beginning Thursday, September 3, during the school week only, Monday through Friday, Undercliff Avenue will be one way southbound from Orchard Street to Route 5 from 7:30am to 8:15am.
LABOR DAY SCHEDULE CHANGES
In observance of the Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 7, the following schedules apply; Borough offices closed, no ferry service, no trash collection, and regular ferry service Friday, September 4, trash collection Tuesday, September 8.
2015 Road Paving Program
The borough is tentatively scheduled to pave Undercliff Avenue from Valley Place to Dempsey Avenue. As we confirm the actual start date, we will notify the neighbors in this area to be prepared to park in the municipal lot as well as expect detours.
New Borough Web Site
The Mayor and Council are pleased to announce the new Borough of Edgewater web site, same address www.edgewaternj.org, new updated content. Updated features include the ability to fill out forms on line and electronically submit them, pay taxes and fees on line, easier to navigate, adaptable to portable devices.
SEPTEMBER 11 MEMORIAL SERVICE
This year’s September 11 Memorial Service will take place in the Borough Hall Courtyard, Friday September 11, 55 River Road at 9:30 a.m. Let us not forget our three residents who perished on that fateful day, Robert M. Levine, Anne T. Ransom, Jayesh Shah and recognize those brave Americans who answered the call to duty.
THE 24th ANNUAL EDGEWATER ARTS AND MUSIC FESTIVAL
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2015, on Old River Road in the Shadyside Neighborhood A Juried Arts Show! The 24th cultural event and celebration of the arts features artists, sculptors, jewelry makers, photographers, designers and musicians.
WOOF STOCK EDGEWATER
City Place, along with the Edgewater Health Department is sponsoring its first ever “Woof Stock at City Place” on Saturday, September 12 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at City Place, 225 River Road. Join them for a fun filled day with pet friendly activities and music all to benefit Pet Res Q. Meet plenty of dogs and puppies available for adoption, along with a showcase of local pet-centric businesses along with a Doggie Fashion Parade with lots of prizes. The Edgewater Health Department will be on hand for licensing and rabies vaccination information.
COASTAL CLEAN-UP DAY
Join the Mayor and Council for our 4th annual “Coastal Clean-Up Day” on Saturday September 26 at the Edgewater Commons Mall, by the Outback Steakhouse at 10:00am. Last year we had over 100 volunteers who helped in removing over 20 yards of debris and litter from the Hudson River shore line. ANNUAL SHREDDING EVENT
The 2015 annual shredding event has been scheduled for Saturday September 19 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Edgewater Community Center. Bring your unwanted papers, tax returns, receipts and watch them be shredded in a state of the art shredding truck, free to residents.
EDGEWATER SPORTS BOOSTERS GOLF OUTING
The Edgewater Sports Boosters, will be hosting their 5th Annual Golf outing on Friday October 9, 2015 at the Meadows Golf Club, 79 Two Bridges Road, Lincoln Park, New Jersey, www.meadowsgolfclub.com, shotgun start 9:00am. STORM PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION
As we approach the 2015 Hurricane Season, we take a minute to reflect on the 3 year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, this tropical storm caused severe damage to Edgewater. Through the efforts of local, county and state emergency management personnel, our community was able to overcome the devastating effects of this storm. Our Police, Fire, Ambulance, and Public Works Agencies along with many others, came together and worked through this critical time. The State Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has put together a comprehensive Hurricane Survival Guide (use link below). FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
National Fire Prevention Week is October 4 to October 10. The Edgewater Fire Department will be sponsoring safety instructional lessons at all Edgewater Schools which will culminate with the annual Fire Safety Exposition at the Edgewater Commons at McDonalds on Tuesday, October 6 with a rain date of Thursday October 8.
