January Calendar of Events!
2, 16, 30, Friday; “Tiny Hands Art Class” 12:30 PM; Ages 16 Mos.: Join staffer Susan Price as she leads little artists through the bi-weekly “THAC.” This long-running and extremely popular program helps little ones to hone their motor skills and to encourage the exploration of creativity and the development of social skills. Urge your children to participate in this uber-popular free-art program! Please enroll via the library’s online registration template!
9, 16, 23, 30, Friday; 10:30 & 11:30 AM: “Storytime Yoga with Adra!” Ages 16 Mos. And up!: Join Adra, of “We Play Yoga” fame, as she leads caregivers and little ones through a storytime program punctuated by Yoga poses and postures! Due to the popularity of the program, the library offers two sessions; 10:30-11:15 and 11:30-12:15 PM. Program enrollment is on-going. Due to the nature of this initiative and space limitations, enrollment is mandatory and drop-ins will be turned away. Please select and enroll in just ONE of the two available time-slots via the library’s online registration template.
5, Monday; 4:00 PM: “Spelling Bee” Ages K+: Using the Scripps Spelling Bee model, the EFPL will be hosting a spelling bee of our own! Attendees will be divided into age-groups and challenged with grade-appropriate words. Please enroll via the library’s online registration template!
6, Tuesday; 4:00 PM: “Open Gaming: Wii / Xbox” Ages 6+: The EFPL will make its’ vast collection of Wii and Xbox games available to our tiniest gamers! While here, attendees will select a game to build a tournament around… and prizes will be made available, as will refreshments. Please enroll via the library’s online registration template!
6, Tuesday; 7:00 PM: “Xbox Tournament” Grades 6+: Let’s get some Xbox NBA 2K15!”: Gr. 6+: The library will be hosting an Xbox 2K15 tournament WITH a grand prize! Please enroll via library’s online registration template.
7, 14, 21, 28, Wednesday; 11:30 AM: “Baby’s Lapsit Storytime” Ages Up to 18 Mos.: A storytime, a sing-along time, a fun for my caregiver n’ me time! Join Jamey as he leads this long-running and enormously popular infant-storytime program! This program affords little ones an opportunity to develop gross motor skills while providing caregivers with the chance to develop their own social networks. Please enroll via library’s online registration template.
7, 14, 21, 28, Wednesday; 4:00 PM: “Chess Club” Ages 7+: Chess teaches lessons that resonate far beyond the playing board; mathematics, spatial thinking and strategic planning are just some of the skills developed through Chess. Staff member Joseph Licitra provides basic to intermediate instruction. Currently, Chess is closed to NEW enrollees. Fall Session II program concludes at the end of January, and Winter Session I enrollment will begin on February 4th. ******Please note: Children under the age of 10 MUST be accompanied by a Caregiver. 8, 15, 22, 29, Thursday; 10:30 AM: “Mother Goose Group Storytime”: Ages 18 Mos. and up OR “Capable Walkers”: Mother Goose Group is a storytime, a sing-along and movement program, and a dynamic social environment for both toddler and caregiver. “MGG,” geared for those who have aged-out of Babies’ Lapsit, “MGG” is a laugh out-loud program AND a wonderful opportunity for Toddlers to sharpen gross motor, language and social skills! Caregivers, please enroll via the library’s online registration template, drop-ins will be turned away.
8, 15, 22, 29, Thursday; “Starter Chess” 4:00 PM: Gr. K+: Starter Chess, also taught by staff member Joseph Licitra, is geared for youngsters who have little to no Chess playing experience. Attendees will learn how the pieces move, basic strategies, and are then afforded the opportunity to play during the program’s final 30 minutes. Fall Session II program concludes at the end of January, and Winter Session I will begin on February 5th. Please register via the library’s online registration template. Due to the nature of the program and space limitations, enrollment is mandatory and drop-ins will be turned away. ******Please note: Children under the age of 10 MUST be accompanied by a Caregiver.
8, 15, 22, 29, Thursday; “Guitar with Joe!” 5:00 PM: Ages 7+: Ages 7+: Do you excel at playing “air guitar” but dream of playing “real” guitar? If so, this is the class for you! Enrollment will commence upon October 20th and conclude when the program is full or, on the first day of the Chess program. Please register via the library’s online registration template. Due to the nature of the program and space limitations, enrollment is mandatory and drop-ins will be turned away. ******Please note: Children under the age of 10 MUST be accompanied by a Caregiver.
12, Monday, “Juvenile Jeopardy” 4:00 PM: Gr. 2+: Using the game-show of the same name as a model, students will compete in a question and answer competition. Prizes, pizza and refreshments provided. Please enroll the via the library’s online registration template.
20 Tuesday, “Tuesday @ The Movies: The BoxTrolls” Gr. 1+: An imaginative and incredibly creative film. Eggs, an orphan, lives with the Boxtrolls — a community of quirky, mischievous creatures who inhabit a cavern beneath the city of Cheesebridge. When villainous Archibald Snatcher (Ben Kingsley) hatches a plan to get rid of the pretty harmless beings, Eggs decides to go above ground, where he meets and befriends feisty Winnifred (Elle Fanning). Together, Eggs and Winnifred devise a daring plan to save the Boxtrolls from extermination. PLEASE NOTE: The film CAN be intense and it is NOT appropriate for children younger than 1st grade. 27, Tuesday, “Beading with SueP.!” Gr. K+: The incomparable and eminently talented Susan Price will lead attendees through a Jewelry-making workshop! Please enroll via the library’s online registration template.
