Edgewater, NJ (September 18, 2011) — Five top artistic winners were announced at the 20th annual Arts & Music Festival, held in Edgewater on Sunday, September 18, 2011.

Nearly 50 area artists participated in this year’s show, making it one of the largest exhibitions of artists in the Edgewater show’s history which distributed $3000 in cash prizes this year.

The Nancy Merse “Best of Show” was given to Edgewater resident Hank Gans for his photography. His theme was “100 mile radius from Edgewater” and all the color photographs in his exhibition were taken within a 100-mile radius from the center of Edgewater.  Hank was awarded $1000 and the award was given by the Borough of Edgewater in honor of recently deceased Mayor Nancy Merse.

Cash prizes of $500 each were given to the following artists:

The Mariner’s Bank “Best Art” was awarded to Daniel Filippone, a Fairview, NJ resident for his oil paintings of construction workers.  The judges found his work “compelling” and “moving”, particularly one piece depicting four workmen walking into a rubble.

“Best Photography” was given to Don Sichler, Hoboken, NJ.  Judges found his photographic technique “amazing”.

“Best Craft” winner was Gale Abbott, North Bergen, NJ for her hand-made jewelry, combining beautiful gemstones with a rich design pattern.

“Best Fashion Design” winner was Lori Ann Neels, Township of Washington, NJ for her redesign of vintage clothing into a modern, yet retro combination that judges found to be unique, fun, wearable art.

The annual event is sponsored by the Edgewater Arts Council (EAC), and awards were given by Lynne Grasz, President of the EAC and Neda Rose, Founder and President-Emeritus of the EAC.
